I kept seeing these pictures I had saved on my desktop of pretty yellow flowers on this unidentified cactus.
Then I started looking to see if I had indeed shared them before. Search though I did, I never found a blog spotlighting these flowers. So, even if you have seen them before, here they are again. Just to be sure.
I do think this cactus is a lobivia, but I won’t swear to it.
I think these blooms are lovely, and that I will swear to.
And if you’ve seen these flowers before, just pretend you haven’t, and enjoy them again.
Hi Alice, Excellent, beautiful flowers. Thanks, Richard
And hello to you, Richard! Thanks for reading.
I have a very similar cactus that I purchased in New Mexico labeled as Lobivia aurea. I will try and post a picture of it soon.
Thanks, Maury. I want to call it a lobivia, too, but wasn’t quite sure. I’ll be interested to see if yours matches it.
Very nice!
This looks like what used to be widely sold as Lobivia leucomalla. The plant is extremely variable as to spine number, color and length, so it picked up a lot of synonyms.
Botanists decided it should be called Lobivia aurea, an older name. Then Lobivia was lumped into Echinopsis, so now it’s Echinopsis aurea. You will usually find it sold as Lobivia leucomalla.
It’s a beautiful flower. Thanks for the ID.
