I did lose an uncle, but I am one of the fortunate ones: I lost no father, no son, daughter, no husband, and so far, no grandchild in any American war. I am also blessed to be an American. Nothing breaks my heart more than to see the headstones at a National Cemetery.
So to those who made the supreme sacrifice, and to those who are now serving, thank you. Words, however, mean precious little considering your service. Our good behavior as responsible American citizens would be a better way to repay your courage under fire.
Godspeed and bless your hearts.
