Dani Heathington may have retired from education in 2022, but she can’t seem to stay away from kids! She and her daughter Myndi Heinrich, who was an elementary teacher also, both had the same idea; little kids in Muleshoe could benefit from a meeting place, somewhere to play and meet other little kids. They also saw a place where their moms could take a break and visit with other young moms, with whom they could share experiences and tips, encourage each other, and help one another. Dads and other caretakers are welcome to come, too!
So, these two women, who between them have forty years of elementary education experience, came up with the Busy Bungalow, a place for children to gather, play, learn, and just have a good time. They bought a building, enlisted family members to help, and got to work, along with Rodriguez Construction, Leal Construction, Precure Electric, and Del Toro Plumbing to create a safe, happy, interesting environment for kids who are crawling up to ten years old to have fun. The Muleshoe Economic Development Corporation helped by granting a forgivable loan to help them start a business that provides service to the community.
Work began on December 1, 2023, and became a good four and a half month project! Some artwork and a few other amenities are still to come, but this is what they came up with.
Arts and crafts projects will be set up on the long white table available for the kids who would like to work on them. Special activities and themes like Christmas, Easter, Earth Day, Read Across America, and many others will be celebrated throughout the year. Complimentary coffee will be available for adults supervising their charges.
The bungalow will be open for play from 9 to 5 Monday through Friday; a parent/other adult is required to stay and supervise the children while they are at the facility. The bungalow can be rented for evenings and on Saturdays and Sundays for special events such as birthday parties, private parties, baby showers, team parties, Pre-K and daycare visits, home school field trips, church groups, all would be welcome to come. On Saturdays, if no parties are scheduled, the event center will be open for regular play and announced on Facebook.
The Grand Opening will be Monday, April 29, and then the bungalow will open for business on Tuesday, April 30.
So, on Monday drop by 228 South Main, and check it out.
You even might be tempted to play with some of the neat toys, too!
If you have questions, call the bungalow at 806-272-3464,
