You may have noticed a novel Christmas decoration out on Highway 84 on your way to Lubbock. I did some investigating and found out who went to the trouble to help us celebrate Christmas with Rudolph and Santa and the whole crew this year. I spoke with Christie who said Santa and sleigh and reindeer are simply an extension of Tommie’s Garden that gets seasonally decorated year-round.

I’ll let Christie tell you in her own words:

“As an extension of Tommie’s Garden, Joe Ed’s Auto Supply wanted to add a little more Christmas cheer to the community and any travelers passing through Muleshoe. We decided to assemble Santa and his reindeer on the old potato shed foundation east of town on Highway 84. The sole purpose of the display is to make people smile.

A big thanks to Santa’s helper, Albert, who can build or fix anything. As part of the “art installation,” some of the items borrowed include: the 53-foot flatbed trailer, a generator, and a diesel tank stand. The round bales will be ground for cattle feed after the holidays. The presents are small straw bales. Santa’s sleigh is an original 1904 Stever buggy donated by Dave and Marie Brown.

If you drive by, here’s the quiz-

On the display, besides the traditional answer, what makes this Rudolph stand out from the other reindeer?

Merry Christmas to all. We hope you smiled.”

You need to drive by and take a look after dark, too, because Joe Ed’s elves made sure we could see Santa and Rudolph sailing through the air at night.

And yes, you will surely smile.

Ho, Ho, Ho!

Thanks to Christie and Terry Brewster for their help with this story.
